Gallbladder Removal (Cholecystectomy)
One Healthcare is able to provide private gallbladder removal via the One Hatfield Hospital in Hertfordshire and and One Ashford Hospital in Kent.
The gallbladder is a small organ in the abdomen which stores bile, a substance used by your body to break down the fatty foods that we eat. When bile in the gallbladder becomes too concentrated, gallstones can form in the gallbladder causing significant discomfort, jaundice, and nausea. When this happens, a surgical operation is performed to remove the gallbladder. This is known as a cholecystectomy.
Your gallbladder is not required by your body to produce bile and break down food so your doctor is likely to recommend a cholecystectomy if you develop gallstones. Cholecystectomy remains one of the most common surgical procedures across the world.
The cholecystectomy operation can be performed in two ways. The first is a laparoscopic procedure, laparoscopic procedures are commonly known as ‘keyhole surgery’. The second is an open surgery. Both procedures are performed under general anaesthetic. While the laparoscopic procedure remains the most common form of cholecystectomy, your doctor will recommend the appropriate procedure based on your personal circumstances.
At One Healthcare we can book you in to see a specialist surgeon, usually within 48 hours, for an initial consultation. Gallbladder removal is available at the One Hatfield Hospital in Hertfordshire and the One Ashford Hospital in Kent, which makes our hospitals ideally located for patients in St Albans, Stevenage, Watford, Canterbury, Maidstone, Folkestone and further afield.
