Mr Robert Hone is a leading Consultant ear, nose and throat surgeon specialist recognised for his outstanding patient care, communication and surgical skills. Professional Profile

Mr Robert Hone is a Consultant ENT surgeon working across Kent with extensive experience and is one of the region’s leading specialists. He trained throughout the South East of England, including within Paediatrics at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. He furthered his skills with a prestigious national appointment, engaging in an advanced Head and Neck surgical oncology fellowship.


During his training Robert Hone completed a Masters of Surgery with distinction and has a Batchelor of Science degree. He has numerous peer review publications and is actively involved in research, including clinical trials, continuously striving to improve services and patient care. He is currently departmental audit lead, lectures for King’s College London and is heavily involved in the training of junior and senior clinicians.


Dedicated to upholding the highest standards of care, Mr Hone prioritises placing patients at the centre of their consultation and decision making process. He takes time to listen and explore patient concerns and symptoms through a complete history and examination. Personal Profile

Robert Hone grew up in South East England and went to University at Guy’s, Kings and St Thomas’ medical school. He is married with two daughters and lives in Kent. He is a keen sportsman having played to a high standard at school and University. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and looking the rescue animals he has re-homed.

Research & Publications

Mr Hone is a well-respected and recognised surgeon throughout ENT departments in the region.  He spent a year working for King’s College London as anatomy demonstrator where he still performs anatomy lectures every year as part of a bachelor of science degree programme.  He has set up local and regional teaching programmes, including compulsory anatomy training days for trainee surgeons within the Kent, Surrey and Sussex school of Surgery.  Furthermore he was the regional trainee academic and research representative throughout his training.

 

Mr Hone has presented his academic work at multiple national and international meetings.  He has numerous peer review publications including book chapters and papers from individual and collaborative work on hearing, thyroid and parathyroid disease, head and neck cancer, Meniere’s disease, surgical training and diseases of nose and sinuses. He continues to take an active role in research and is principle investigator in East Kent for the International Phase III Clinical Trial, PATHOS, which is subsequently leading to the foundation of a head and neck robotic programme for the Trust. His quality improvement and service development projects include a dozen audits and new departmental equipment for outpatients and theatre.
