Miss Shabnam Undre started with East and North Herts NHS Trust in March 2015 as a Consultant Urological Surgeon with a special interest in Paediatric Urology. She joined One Hatfield in August 2020.

Miss Undre completed her urology training on the North-West London rotation. During this time she spent one year training in Paediatric Urology at Great Ormond Street Hospital. After completing her training in Urology, Miss Undre was appointed as a post CCT fellow in paediatric Urology and spent a further year at Great Ormond Street. Miss Undre was then appointed as a Locum Consultant at Great Ormond Street in Paediatric Urology from April 2013-Sept 2014 and at UCLH in Paediatric and Adolescent Urology from Oct 2014-Feb 2015 before commencing her post with East and North Herts NHS Trust. She is currently the Clinical Director of the department.

 

Miss Undre runs a comprehensive Paediatric Urological service and has also set up the Enuresis clinics at East and North Herts NHS Trust. A range of paediatric urological conditions are covered such as congenital abnormality of the urinary tract and genitalia, antenatal hydronephrosis, Vesico Ureteric Reflux, Pelvi-Ureteric Junction obstruction, dysfunctional voiding, Urinary tract infections and incontinence in children. Miss Undre offers a range of procedures such as orchidopexies, circumcisions, hydrocele, meatal procedures, cystoscopy and hyspospadias repair.

 

Miss Undre completed a PhD titled “team work in the operating theatre” and has carried on her work in the field after being awarded the PhD in 2007. She has published extensively on the subject and related patient safety topics and presented her work at national and international conferences. She continues to be active in the field of patient safety and has been involved in research regarding WHO checklists and team briefing for surgery. She has written several book chapters including paediatric urology topics such as ‘obstructive uropathy’ and ‘posterior urethral valves’. She has published and presented extensively on a range of topics from Urology to Patient Safety and Teamwork (45 peer reviewed papers, 7 book chapters and 50 Presentations). She is also working on a National campaign “save the ball” to create awareness regarding testicular health in boys.  Miss Undre was an associate on the European Urology guidelines committee for Paediatric Urology. She continues to have links and honorary contracts with GOSH and UCLH for multidisciplinary discussions and for referral of complex cases as well as with Imperial College for research.

 

Miss Undre is actively involved in teaching and training and runs the paediatric Urology teaching as well as several exam preparation courses for Paediatric urology.
