The hysterectomy procedure is a surgical operation to remove your womb (uterus). Often a hysterectomy procedure will also involve the removal of your cervix or ovaries, though this is not always the case. Your doctor may recommend a hysterectomy if you are experiencing heavy or painful periods, or if you are experiencing fibroids (where growths develop in and around your womb).
There are four kinds of hysterectomy available at One Healthcare: hysterectomy, abdominal hysterectomy, laparoscopic hysterectomy, and vaginal hysterectomy. Each procedure involves a different surgical methodology, your doctor will recommend the type of hysterectomy that is right for you.
The hysterectomy procedure may dramatically improve or cure your symptoms. After the procedure you will stop having periods.
The hysterectomy procedure is performed under general anaesthetic and patients are normally allowed to go home after four to six days. A period of at least two weeks rest is recommended while you complete reparative exercises that will be taught to you in hospital. Depending on the type of work you do, it is possible to go back to work after six to eight weeks. You should be back to feeling your normal self after three months.
Completing regular exercise will help you get back to normal in the shortest time possible. Before exercising, ask your doctor or medical team for advice.
At One Healthcare we can book you in to see a specialist Gynecology surgeon, usually within 48 hours, for an initial consultation.
You can use your private medical insurance or pay for your Hysterectomy treatment. We offer competitive, fixed price packages as well as the ability to spread your cost with the option of 0% finance. If you are using your health insurance please do contact your insurer first for approval and let them know you’d like to be treated at either the One Ashford Hospital or One Hatfield Hospital.
