Mr Martin Farrugia

Professional Profile

I have been a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 2003 and moved to Kent in 2005. After 12 years as an NHS Consultant at East Kent Hospitals, I am now in fulltime independent private gynaecology practice. My special areas of interest include advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery. I achieved my Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Malta in June 1990 and became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in November 1996. I obtained my PhD at the University of London in 2009 and became a Fellow of the Royal College in 2015. As part of my endoscopic training, I was a clinical fellow in endoscopic surgery at Whipps Cross Hospital in North East London for 3 years. I have served as Board Member on the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) and the European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE). Over 25 years, I have gained experience carrying out advanced endoscopic procedures and have lectured in national and international meetings and congresses. I have carried out advanced endoscopic procedures, including live demonstrations, in over 25 countries around the world.

Personal Profile

I am fluent in Maltese, English, Italian and German and travelling to foreign countries is one of my favourite pastimes. I also like cycling, scuba diving and flying. I have recently obtained my instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) rating.
