Dr Mayhead has over a eleven years’ experience as a Consultant working with a wide range of gastroenterology patients focusing on holistic, patient-centred care. He is a qualified Bowel Cancer Screener and has a versatile endoscopic skill set, providing both upper and lower GI condition management, billiary endoscopy (ERCP) and other theapeutic interventions. He works closely with dietetics and other specialties to provide effective, evidence based care for functional conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Gastrointestinal Functional Disorder (GIFD), Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), Bile Acid Malabsorption (BAM) and visceral hypersensitivity.

Professional Profile
Dr Mayhead studied at Kings College London, qualifying in 1997. He completed his junior residency in the South East of England before spending two years gaining further experience in Australia. On return to the UK in 2003 he undertook specialism in gastroenterology and completed a Masters in Human Nutrition in 2006. Having finished his training in 2009, he moved to a Consultant post at Eastbourne District General Hospital where he undertook roles including Clinical Lead for both Gastroenterology and Endoscopy.
During this time he has qualified as both a Bowel Cancer Screener and is an Examiner for the same programme. He has input into a wide range of JAG approved endoscopy courses and is a named author for a number of audit-led publications. He is now a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Kent.

Dr Mayhead has lived in East Sussex for 23 years and makes the most of the excellent riding, cycling and running terrain provided by this county.
