The meniscus is a layer of cartilage in your knee joint that acts as a shock absorber between the bones in knee. It enables you to move your knee smoothly and supports stability.
A torn meniscus is fairly common and may not heal without treatment due to the fact that the blood supply to that area is limited.
If you have torn your meniscus you may feel feel, have swelling and have restricted movement.
Our specialist Orthopaedic surgeons can repair your meniscus surgically. Most often this is done arthroscopically (keyhole surgery which is less invasive than open surgery) under general or local anaesthetic.
Your surgeon makes small incisions (cuts) in your knee and using a camera will be able to assess and repair the damage.
You can use your private medical insurance or pay for your Meniscal Repair treatment. We offer competitive, fixed price packages as well as the ability to spread your cost with the option of 0% finance. If you are using your health insurance please do contact your insurer first for approval and let them know you’d like to be treated at either the One Ashford Hospital or One Hatfield Hospital.
