Laparoscopy and Dye Test
A laparoscopy and dye test is a surgical operation using keyhole surgery to help your doctor find out why you are having difficulty becoming pregnant. The dye test will show whether or not your fallopian tubes have become blocked. The laparoscopy is useful in the diagnosis of endometriosis, pelvic infection, adhesions, ovarian cysts, or fibroids. For some women, minor treatment can be performed at the same time as the procedure. The laparoscopy and dye test procedure may also be helpful to your doctor in understanding infertility. An X-ray or ultrasound test may be recommended before surgery.
The laparoscopy and dye test procedure is a surgical operation that takes roughly 15 minutes to perform. The procedure is usually performed under general anaesthetic. Your surgeon will insert instruments, along with a telescope, inside your abdomen and perform the operation before injecting a dye, which passes down your fallopian tubes.
Patients who undergo the laparoscopy and dye test procedure are usually able to return home on the same day. After the operation, your medical team will tell you what the procedure revealed and recommend further treatment, if necessary. You should be able to return to normal activities after 2 days.
Regular exercise will help you return to normal as quickly as possible. Before beginning a course of exercise consult with your medical team for advice.
At One Healthcare we can book you in to see a specialist Gynaecology surgeon for an initial consultation, usually within 48 hours. The laparoscopy and dye test procedure is available at One Ashford Hospital in Kent and One Hatfield Hospital in Hertfordshire.
