Haemorrhoids are small fleshy lumps that sometimes develop around the rectum, commonly known as ‘piles’. They can cause pain or itching and are often associated with bleeding while passing a bowel movement. When large they can pass through the anus and will feel like a lump when you clean yourself.
A haemorrhoidectomy is a surgical procedure to remove haemorrhoids. Patients who undergo the haemorrhoidectomy procedure should no longer experience the symptoms listed above.
A haemorrhoidectomy procedure is usually performed under general anaesthetic and takes about 20 minutes. Your surgeon will remove your haemorrhoids either by cutting them away or using a staple gun.
After a haemorrhoidectomy procedure you should be able to return home the same day, especially if your surgeon performed the operation using a staple gun. Your doctor will recommend dietary and exercise requirements to help you recover as quickly as possible. The wounds from surgery often take several weeks to heal completely, there are no wounds with the staple gun technique.
Regular exercise is essential to help you return to normal as quickly as possible. Before beginning an exercise regime, speak to your medical team for advice.
At One Healthcare we can book you in to see a specialist Colorectal surgeon, usually within 48 hours, for an initial consultation. The hemorrhoidectomy procedure is available at the One Hatfield Hospital in Hertfordshire and the One Ashford Hospital in Kent.
You can use your private medical insurance or pay for your Haemorrhoidectomy treatment. We offer competitive, fixed price packages as well as the ability to spread your cost with the option of 0% finance. If you are using your health insurance please do contact your insurer first for approval and let them know you’d like to be treated at either the One Ashford Hospital or One Hatfield Hospital.
