The circumcision procedure is a surgical operation to remove your prepuce (foreskin). Your doctor may recommend circumcision if you are suffering from phimosis (the tightening of the foreskin), balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO), pain during sex, or recurring infections.
If your doctor suspects that you have BXO, surgical circumcision is the only dependable treatment option. For other conditions, your doctor may recommend a dorsal slit operation or preputioplasty instead of circumcision.
The circumcision procedure is a surgical operation that take roughly 30 minutes and is usually performed under general anaesthetic. Your surgeon will remove your prepuce, seal off the small blood vessels that sit at its base, and stitch the remaining two edges of skin together.
Patients who undergo the circumcision procedure are usually able to return home on the same day. Your penis will be swollen and bruised as a result of the procedure and may continue to feel sore for a week.
Your doctor will recommend that you wear loose underwear and refrain from sex for three weeks. Regular exercise is recommended for the quickest recovery. Before beginning a course of exercise consult with your medical team for advice.
At One Healthcare we can book you in to see a specialist Urology surgeon, usually within 48 hours, for an initial consultation. Circumcision procedures are available at the One Ashford Hospital in Kent and the One Hatfield Hospital in Hertfordshire.
