We are looking for a Theatre Scrub Practitioner to join our excellent theatre team. We spoke to Yunus Biter, Theatre Practitioner, to find out a little bit more about his role and what it’s like to work in the theatre team at One Hatfield Hospital.
Thanks for talking to us Yunus! How long have you worked at One Hatfield Hospital?
I’ve worked at one Hatfield Hospital for nearly 3 years. I’ve been a theatre practitioner for 8 years, ever since I qualified as a General Nurse in 2012.
Why did you chose to follow this career path?
The reason I chose to work in theatres was because of the variety of choices you have in the role of theatre practitioner. There are multiple pathways to follow such as anaesthetics, scrubbing or recovery. You also have the option to do a bit of everything with the right training and support.
What is a typical day like?
A typical day in theatres is always varied as we are dealing with so many different type of surgical procedures. We start our day of by preparing the theatre for the day’s cases then we have a big team meeting to find out what is going on in the department. We work closely with surgeons and anaesthetists to deliver the best care for our patients.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of our job is to know we are improving patient’s lives by delivering exceptional care.
What do you like about working at One Hatfield Hospital?
I have had the opportunity to work in many hospitals around London and when compared, I can say that One Hatfield Hospital has been the most rewarding place to work. We have a great team who are always ready to support one another. We also get excellent staff benefits.
What training would I need to be a theatre practitioner?
To work in theatre there are no essential courses you need to attend after your initial nursing, ODP or HCA training unless you are doing anaesthetic nursing. However most of the training and competencies are provided in house by our experienced members of the team.
