Thigh Reduction Surgery

Thigh reduction surgery is a type of cosmetic surgery designed to alter the shape of your body. As we age it is natural for skin to become looser and for weight-loss to become more difficult, especially in areas where cellulite builds up. The thigh reduction surgery procedure is designed to tighten the thighs and change their look.

Thigh reduction surgery should not be used as an alternative to weight loss, the procedure is best suited to patients who are close to their healthy weight but are nonetheless unable to lose baggy skin through exercise and diet. Your doctor will inform you if the procedure is suitable for your body.

Before undertaking the procedure your surgeon will make an assessment to decide the most appropriate place to make an incision for your body. The incision your surgeon makes is likely to be quite long and will produce visible scars. As far as possible, your surgeon will ensure that these scars are positioned where they can be hidden – for example within a bikini line.

Surgery

The thigh reduction surgery procedure is a major surgical operation that takes roughly 2 to 3 hours and is usually performed under general anaesthetic. Your surgeon will remove areas of skin and fat and tighten the area around the thighs to create a smooth look. Liposuction may performed as part of the thigh reduction procedure and the operation can be performed in tandem with a buttock lift.

After Surgery

Patients who undergo the thigh reduction procedure will be able to return home after 1 or 2 days. Your medical team will recommend a period of rest before returning to normal activities. The length of this recovery period will depend on the extent of your surgery but is likely to be in excess of a couple of weeks.

During the recovery procedure you will need to wear a specialist body contouring garment to ensure that you heal correctly. The scars produced by the surgery will be permanent but will lighten and become less visible after 9 to 12 months.

Regular exercise can help reduce recovery time for major surgery. Before beginning a course of exercise consult your medical team for advice.

You can’t usually use your private medical insurance for cosmetic surgery but you can pay directly for your Thigh Reduction Surgery treatment. We offer competitive, fixed price packages as well as the ability to spread the cost of your treatment over a number of months. If you are able to use your health insurance, please contact your insurer first for approval and let them know you’d like to be treated at One Hatfield Hospital.
