Mr Adam Rumian is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in treatment and surgery of the shoulder and elbow.

 

Clinical Interests

Shoulder conditions:

Sports injuries, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears, subacromial impingement, bursitis, calcific tendonitis, biceps tendon disorders, shoulder joint dislocations and instability, labral tears, SLAP lesions, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fractures and traumatic injuries, clavicle injuries, acromio-clavicular joint (ACJ) disruptions, ACJ arthritis.

 

Elbow conditions:

tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis), ulnar nerve entrapment and neuropathy (cubital tunnel syndrome), fractures and dislocations, instability, ligament injuries, biceps tendon ruptures, loose bodies, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.

 

Trauma conditions:

shoulder fractures and dislocations, clavicle fractures, fractures of the humerus, elbow fractures and dislocations

Mr Adam Rumian

Mr Rumian studied medicine at Cambridge University (Queens’ College) and completed his clinical training at Imperial School of Medicine, qualifying as a doctor in 1998. His specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery was on the highly regarded North-West Thames rotation in London, followed by extensive training in shoulder and elbow surgery and reconstruction, which included a fellowship in the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Mr Rumian was also selected for a prestigious year-long advanced training fellowship working with one of the world’s leading surgeons, Professor Pascal Boileau, in Nice, France.

 

Mr Rumian was subsequently appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust where he now works based at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Welwyn Garden City. In addition to his clinical work, for which he has been awarded Clinical Excellence Awards, he is the Deputy Clinical Director and so also responsible for the supervision and training of the senior trainees.

 

Mr Rumian was born and raised in West London and was a a scholarship pupil at St Paul’s School, where he also played rugby and swam for the School. He was awarded a Leaver’s prize for achieving the best grades of the year and went on to study at Cambridge University where he took up rowing, which became his main sport. He went on to row for Imperial College, unfortunately losing to Yale university in the Final of Henley Royal Regatta!  He now lives in Harpenden with his wife Kim and three children. When opportunity and time allows, he enjoys skiing, playing golf and following the progress of the England rugby team.
