Orthopaedics: Managing Hand and Foot Injuries/Conditions During COVID-19

10th October 2020 (Virtual)

Join One Ashford Hospital for a virtual CPD educational seminar on the management of foot and ankle, and hand and wrist injuries/conditions during COVID-19, featuring leading Orthopaedic Consultants, Mr Bal Dhinsa and Mr Chris James.

Mr Bal Dhinsa

Mr Bal Dhinsa, Consultant Foot and Ankle Surgeon will be taking us through common injuries and management during COVID-19, using his own diagnostic workup and case studies to give a rounded insight into these conditions.

He will go through acute and overuse injuries seen as patients came out of lockdown, and discuss how to recognise and treat these injuries, giving his own diagnostic workup and explaining his examination process.  He will then go through conservative and operative treatment options, including the collaborative management of patients across multiple healthcare disciplines.

The use of virtual assessment, rehabilitation and injury prevention will also be discussed.  Mr Dhinsa will impart his extensive knowledge on prevention, and will also discuss how rehabilitation is such a key role in a sportsperson’s return to the sport they love.

Mr Chris James

Consultant Hand and Upper Limb Surgeon Mr James will be discussing what conditions have become prevalent during lockdown and what conditions may have become overlooked.  Some focus will be on specific topics such as:

  • Computer and iPad hand and wrist disorders
  • ‘COVID safe’ sports injuries such as cycling, tennis and golf
  • Common DIY and gardening injuries

These conditions can be disabling for many patients who are protecting their health and isolating at home.  Most can be easily treated.

Mr James will also be discussing the current concepts and indications for surgery and the safe use of regional local anaesthetics.  This has allowed the majority of hand and wrist operations to continue safely during these difficult times without the need to put patients to sleep.

We encourage you to engage in debate with the Consultants and your peers, and you are invited to bring your own case studies for discussion.

The event will be held virtually, starting at 9:00am and finishing at approximately 11:00am and you will be sent a link to join via Zoom the day before.  Please register your interest by clicking on ‘Book a Place’ below.

ACCREDITATION: 2 CPD POINTS
