Mr Simon Ellis is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 20 years’ experience specialising in orthopaedic knee surgery. He is one of the South East’s leading knee surgeons and prides himself on communication. He believes that listening, explaining knee problems in understandable terms and ensuring that patients have all the information needed to make their own management decisions is essential.

Professional Profile

Simon has been a Consultant in Kent since 1996 after his appointment to Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. Following his appointment he specialised exclusively in treatment of knee conditions. Although Simon left the trust in 2016 he continues to provide high quality specialised knee care for both NHS and private patients as an independent knee surgeon.

 

Simon is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association as well as the South East Knee Study group which meets regularly. Simon is a fully accredited Knee Surgeon who provides second opinions on a regular basis for his colleagues as well as offering high quality patient care. In addition to patient care he regularly provides lectures on knee surgery for general practitioners and allied healthcare professionals.

Simon’s mission statement is simple and vital to patient care. “I give the same quality of care to my patients as I would want my family and friends to receive”. Simon is well regarded by patients and colleagues and takes the time to explain knee problems in an easy to understand way. He concentrates on listening and understanding patient’s problems in order to make the correct diagnosis and believes that in providing treatment there is a partnership between himself and his patients.

Arthritis and Knee Replacement Surgery

Suffering from knee arthritis can be an extremely limiting condition.  In general, symptoms include gradually increasing knee pain and gradually deteriorating function.  In the early stages, it is often possible to control symptoms using regular exercises particularly, those avoiding heavy weight bearing.  Keeping the knee moving is important to promote longevity of your own joint.
