Mr Siddharth Virani

Professional Profile

Mr. Virani qualified in 2012 and was trained in orthopaedic surgery in Mumbai and the U.K. After successfully completing the FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics) examination, Mr. Virani undertook advanced subspecialty training through a series of prestigious upper limb fellowships. These included the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust Fellowship, followed by the Epsom and St. Helier NHS Trust & SWLEOC Fellowship - one of the earliest GIRFT-accredited hubs for elective surgery. He then completed his final fellowship at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust in Brighton, a regional GIRFT-accredited centre renowned for its expertise in elbow replacement surgery.

Mr. Virani is currently employed as consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon with special interest in upper limb surgery at the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust based at Ashford and Canterbury. He is keenly interested in research with several publications in peer reviewed journals. His fields of interest for research include bone preservation in shoulder replacements and elbow replacement surgery for trauma. He has a strong interest in quality and service improvement, with published work in peer-reviewed journals focusing on initiatives such as harm review, the development of tools to evaluate clinical consultations, and strategies to enhance trauma list efficiency.

Mr. Virani has been on the national panel for recruitment of core trainees and higher surgical trainees for trauma and orthopaedics and leads the journal club at the William Harvey which reflects his keen interest in training and education. He is a GMC approved clinical and educational supervisor. He has been invited as faculty onto courses for training in shoulder and elbow surgery. He has had formal training in leadership in the NHS and has completed the prestigious BOA Future leaders programme. He also is the lead for the Upper Limb MDT meeting which is a cross site collaborative MDT meeting at East Kent Hospitals.
