Prof. Nikhil Vasdev is a Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon at the Hertfordshire and South Bedfordshire Urological Cancer Centre, Lister Hospital, UK and is an Associate Lecturer in Urology at the University of Cambridge. Professor Nikhil Vasdev

Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon / Senior Lecturer

 

Prof. Nikhil Vasdev is a Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon at the Hertfordshire and South Bedfordshire Urological Cancer Centre, Lister Hospital, UK and is an Associate Lecturer in Urology at the University of Cambridge.

 

In September 2016, Prof. Vasdev was awarded the prestigious “Celebration of Clinical Excellence Award” by the Chief Executive of the East and North Herts NHS Trust and in May 2017, Mr Vasdev was awarded the “Best Innovator” in the Surgical Division Awards at the East and North Herts NHS Trust.

 

Prof. Vasdev’s specialist interest is Urologic Oncology (Clinical and Academic). He performs both robotic prostate and bladder cancer surgery (Robotic Prostatectomy with intra-operative Frozen section of prostate (NeuroSAFE) and extended pelvic lymph node dissection and Robotic Cystectomy) and kidney surgery (Robotic Nephrectomy and Robotic Pyeloplasty). Mr Vasdev also performs open/laparoscopic nephrectomy and open cystectomy with both ileal conduit and neobladder formation. Mr Vasdev also specialises in general urology (Stone disease; Andrology; Fertility, Infertility and assisted conception; Vasectomy reversal; Urinary tract disorders; Urinary infection; Prostate disease; Urinary symptoms; BPH / LUTS; treatment with preservation of sexual function;; Blood in the urine or haematuria; Renal colic and stones). In February 2017, Mr Vasdev has lead and commenced the Blue Light Cystoscopy programme for bladder cancer patients.

 

Prof. Nikhil Vasdev is the UK’s first nationally accredited Robotic Fellow by the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the British Association of Urological Surgeons. As a part of his robotic urological fellowship in the UK and USA he obtained a ChM (Urol) with a distinction from the University of Edinburgh / Royal College of Surgeon of Edinburgh for his thesis on the use of “Intraoperative frozen section of the prostate to reduce positive margin and improve nerve sparing during Robotic prostatectomy”.

 

Prof. Nikhil Vasdev has published extensively and has over 120 peer-reviewed articles, 220 abstracts, 12 book chapters, written 2 textbooks on Urological Cancers and is on the editorial board of 9 international urological journals.

 

Prof. Vasdev is an Associate Lecturer in Urology the University of Cambridge where he leads Urological Medical Student teaching. Prof Vasdev is the Lead Clinical Tutor at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh / University of Edinburgh for the ChM (Urol) degree for Prostate Cancer, Robotic Urology and New Technology. Mr Vasdev is the East and North Herts NHS Trust Cancer Network lead for the Lister Robotic Urology / Vatikutti Foundation, USA collaboration. Mr Vasdev is an international proctor in Robotic Urological Surgeon and mentors hospitals / surgeons in India regularly in and is a clinical advisor to Prostate Cancer UK for the “Best practice pathway national development programme”.

Prof. Nikhil Vasdev is the UK’s first nationally accredited robotic fellow by the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the British Association of Urological Surgeons. As a part of his robotic urological fellowship in the UK and USA he obtained a ChM (Urol) with a distinction from the University of Edinburgh / Royal College of Surgeon of Edinburgh for my thesis on the use of “intraoperative frozen section of the prostate to reduce positive margin and improve nerve sparing during Robotic prostatectomy”. Mr Vasdev has a broad experience in basic science, clinical research and have had numerous successful research grants approved. His basic science background as clinical research associate at the National University of Singapore in Urology involved performing clinical trials and basic science research on gene therapy and immunotherapy for prostate and bladder cancer.
