Mr Milan Thomas

Professional Profile

Mr Thomas is the Clinical Lead for Kidney Cancers in East Kent.  He was also appointed a Clinical Lead for the implementation of a new IT healthcare system to East Kent NHS Foundation Trust. He is an established minimally invasive surgery specialist and offers robotic and standard laparoscopic surgery.  He also performs complex major open surgery for cancer treatment.  In 2015 he was appointed as Consultant Urological Surgeon in East Kent following extensive high level training in urology in Manchester, gaining experience of working in world renowned centres such as The Christie and Salford Royal Hospitals.  During this time he gained valuable skills in treating benign urological conditions and complex major cancers in Urology. 

Mr Thomas’ journey to becoming a successful surgeon began at King Edward VI School for boys, Birmingham where he achieved the highest grades prior to studying medicine at University College London.  Alongside gaining his MBBS, he gained an additional BSc degree in Tumour (Cancer) Biology, developing significant scientific knowledge cancer behaviour and its treatment.  He is therefore well placed to offer cutting edge treatments for all your urological conditions, and prides himself in offering an honest opinion, focusing on patient choice.

Personal Profile

Since moving to Canterbury, Mr Thomas has continued his passion for cycling which began at school and developed further in Manchester, close to the home of British Cycling.  He has participated in numerous charity cycling events, taking him to Europe and northern England.  He is keen on keeping fit and also enjoys running, having participated in charity 10 km runs for cancer research.  He lives with his wife and two young children and encourages them to take part in sports and music.

Research & Publications

Mr Thomas has researched cancer biology of breast cancer tissue during his BSc degree in University College London, Department of Surgery.  He has taken part and published numerous articles in Urology, General Surgery and Radiology.  He has presented on an international stage and currently offers talks and teaching seminars for local practitioners about Urology and surgical care.  He has been a tutor at Edge Hill University for Advanced Surgical Practitioners and continues to train staff on surgical skills.  He also has formal qualifications in teaching and clinical leadership, the latter coming to fruition for the IT development project.

Bladder Cancer and Blood in Urine

Blood in the urine could be a sign of underlying disease of the urinary system, including bladder and kidney cancer or diseases of the kidney.  It should not be ignored and if concerned you should seek a specialist opinion from a Urologist and sometimes a kidney doctor.
