I studied medicine at Oxford University then Kings College London. I trained in all aspects of gynaecology at the very large hospitals in Portsmouth and Southampton. After completing training as a consultant I went on to higher training as a cancer surgeon at the world famous St James’s Hospital in Leeds. I came to the QEII Hospital and later Lister Hospital as a consultant in 2005. My principal areas of expertise are the major surgery and treatment of cancer and keyhole surgery including for endometriosis. I am part of the team of three endometriosis surgeons at Lister hospital and three cancer centre surgeons at Watford where I am the clinical lead for the cancer network
The experience, skills and values that I mastered in these highly regarded institutions have stood me in good stead. Much of the surgery I perform is minimal access including laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis, ovarian cysts and hysterectomy. I also perform less invasive treatments for heavy periods (endometrial ablation) and hysteroscopic and vaginal surgery including removal of fibroids.
I regularly perform major and radical operations for ovarian, uterine (womb), cervical and vulval cancers. The skills I developed as a cancer surgeon really help me to complete more difficult and risky benign surgery safely with lower complication rates and faster and smoother recovery. I am interested in preventing cancer and have 25 years experience in colposcopy.
I believe that women need to be able to have total faith in their doctor who should have the skills and qualities to live up to that expectation. This trust requires top class information, choice and support coupled with the highest levels of expertise, surgical skills, outcomes and aftercare. I aim to deserve this trust whilst at the same time being kind, approachable, gentle and honest. I give all my patients the same reassurance, care and attention however big or small their problems may seem.
I have a very happy home and social life. My wife works in the NHS and we are very blessed with a baby girl. We have many interests being lovers of opera and ballet extending to all sorts of music and art. We also love travel as well as cooking and fine wine and we love to share these with our friends.
I conducted research into genes that cause cancer. I can help women with an inherited risk to make their own risk as low as possible.
