Knee arthroscopy is keyhole knee surgery. It enables your surgeon to see inside your knee joint with a camera inserted through small incisions in the skin around your knee. A knee arthroscopy helps to diagnose as well as treat a range of knee injuries.
Knee damage and injuries are very common and can cause pain, discomfort, restricted movement and can impact your lifestyle, work and hobbies. Usually patients with knee injuries progress through treatment that is initially less invasive like medication and physiotherapy and pain injections. A knee arthroscopy may be recommended if these treatments are not helping and/or if scans have not identified the cause.
Due to the nature of keyhole surgery it has many benefits over open surgery including an easier and faster recovery.
Once your surgeon can see inside your knee they may be able to treat the damage there and then, or they may recommend different treatment once they more fully understand your injury or damage.
